NEW BUSINESS MODEL - Branded Fares now Available for Sale on International Routes

Effective 20 October 2018, the “Branded Fares” business model already applied on LATAM’s domestic routes will be extended to all international itineraries.

Please remember that “Brands” combine fares into families that share the same benefits or attributes, allowing customers to choose the attributes they wish to pay for or are entitled to due to their Preferred Status, at the time of purchase or later.

The following paragraphs describe the general changes introduced on international routes as a result of Branded Fares implementation.

1. Family/Brand segmentation

Each Brand will have the following attributes:

a) Changes

b) Refund

c) Seat selection (standard seat)

d) LATAM+ Seat

e) Miles/Points accrual

f) Checked baggage

g) Cabin UPG with coupons

Of the above attributes, only the optional seat and baggage services are considered "Ancillaries" and may be purchased for an additional amount even after ticket purchase. In the case of Preferred Members (Platinum, Black and Black Signature), these services are provided as a courtesy if the fare purchased does not already include them.

2. New Families (Brands)

  • Economy Cabin:

4 new families called Brands have been added: TOP, PLUS, LIGHT and PROMO. The fare classes will be published in more than one Brand and will vary depending on the route.

3. Attributes by Family/Brand:

Attributes allowing changes or refunds are subject to the origin/destination. Therefore, ALWAYS refer to the fare regulation (category 16, PENALTIES).

Attributes will be available depending on the Brand chosen. Preferred Black Signature, Black and Platinum (oneworld Emerald and Sapphire) members will have access to some of the Brand-restricted attributes in recognition of their elite status.

1 Applies depending on aircraft type.

  • Baggage attributes by route are described below.
  • Seat selection (standard seats) allows selecting any seat in the seat map except a LATAM+ seat from the time of purchase until check-in.

4. Key points for reservations with Branded Fares

As is the case with domestic markets, ALWAYS include the passenger’s frequent flyer number, as certain attributes are associated to preferred members.

5. Ancillaries sales (Checked Baggage and Seats)

a) Baggage and Bags

With the implementation of Branded Fares on international routes, the following changes will apply for Bags and Baggage Allowance:

  • Baggage allowances are defined by route and the Brand purchased as per the tables below:

On Regional Routes within South America and long-haul routes between Spain and Ecuador/Peru, the Brands PROMO and LIGHT do not allow free baggage. Therefore, the ticket “baggage” box will be marked with NIL for direct sales and left blank for indirect sales. For all other routes and Brands, the box will indicate the corresponding allowance.

Check LATAM Baggage Allowance here

Special Notes on Baggage

  • The carry-on allowance remains unchanged, i.e. one piece up to 8 kg with a maximum total size of 55 cm x 35 cm x 25 cm (length, height, width) plus one personal item not exceeding 45 cm x 35 cm x 20 cm (length, height, width).
  • Infants maintain the current baggage allowance of 1 piece up to 23 kg, plus (cabin space permitting) one collapsible stroller or a car seat approved for airline use or a baby bassinet.

Checked Baggage

  • Checked bags may be purchased for all Brands, award tickets and LATAM routes, even those that include them by default.
  • The bag price will depend on two factors:
    • How far ahead of time it is purchased: the earlier the cheaper (*).
    • The number of pieces checked: the more pieces checked, the higher the price for additional bags.
  • (*) Checked bags may be purchased up to 6 hours prior to flight departure on all routes (this applies for international and domestic routes, except DOM BR that will keep to 3 hours prior departure). Hence, earlier to flight departure bags purchased are made, cheaper will be the price.
  • Each additional piece will be considered to have a standard weight of 23 kg. If the bag is determined to be overweight at the time of check-in, the passenger will have to pay the excess weight fee at the airport.
  • Due to technical limitations, checked bags are not available for an advanced purchased when the ticket is issued by another carrier and/or when the itinerary contains segments on other carriers. In these cases, the customer must be informed that the bag must be purchased on the same day of travel directly at the ATO. These passengers will pay the lowest price for the checked bag if purchased within 6 hours from flight departure.
  • Pre-sales of extra kilograms is not available through any sales channel.

Bag prices will be published in latam.com in due time.

Bag EMD Changes

  • Changes are allowed according to the air ticket regulation.
  • Valid only for the same service and passenger. Changes to routes of lesser value are not eligible for refunds of fare differences.
  • Free of penalty.

Bag EMD Refund

Bags issued in Brazil: according to ticket regulation. The refund must be requested simultaneously with air ticket refund.

Bags issued in other countries: Voluntary refunds are not permitted.

In case of contingency, the passenger protection policy is applied, with involuntary refund.

b) Seats

  • Applies to all LATAM routes
  • All seats in Economy Cabin will have an associated value for use (by default, Brand fares in Business Cabin allow seat selection without additional cost).
  • Brands PLUS and TOP in Economy Cabin have certain seat attributes, such as seat selection, LATAM+ Seat.
  • If the Brand does not have the seat attribute included by default, the seat may be purchased later.
  • If the passenger wishes to secure seats contiguous to other passengers, s/he must purchase the seat or buy a Brand that allows early seat reservation.
  • If the passenger does not wish to purchase the seat, s/he will be assigned a seat randomly at the time of check-in.
  • Flights between SCL-IPC and PPT-IPC do not allow seat purchase. Seats will be available for all Brands and passengers.
  • Seat selection is temporarily available at no cost regardless of the Brand purchased.

Seat EMD changes

  • Changes are subject to ticket fare regulation, i.e. changes are permitted only if the fare allows so.
  • Valid only for the same service and passenger. Changes to routes of lesser value are not eligible for refunds of fare differences.
  • Free of penalty.

Seat EMD Refund

Voluntary Refund:

  • Seats issued in Brazil: according to ticket regulation. The refund must be requested simultaneously with air ticket refund.
  • Seats issued in other countries: Voluntary refunds are not permitted.
  • Involuntary refund: Refunds are allowed in case of rescheduling or cancellation (flight, date, aircraft type, etc.) regardless of the issuing stock.

Involuntary seat refund also applies when:

  • The customer is not satisfied with the seat assigned (the customer may opt between a change of seat maintaining the same type of seat purchased or a refund).
  • If the customer receives an upgrade to Business cabin regardless of the type of seat purchased, s/he may request an involuntary refund of the seat purchased in Economy cabin.

Key points for Ancillaries:

  • Please remember that the exception due to the Colombian Right of Cancellation Law is maintained for sales of international itineraries. Check the details in the Baggage and Seat Sales sections.
  • If a passenger requests an exception of any kind, agents must always consider the ancillaries (checked bags and/or seats) purchased before proceeding with any change or refund – always in accordance with the fare regulations.

6. Procedure for tickets issued before Branded Fares implementation in routes within South America and LATAM Long Haul routes between Spain and Ecuador/Peru and request a change

Passengers with ticket issued before the Branded Fares implementation who have not commenced their trip and request a change after the date of Branded Fares implementation: Depending on the type of reissue of the new ticket, the system may show NIL (no baggage allowance) in the baggage box.

In these cases, after verifying that the original ticket actually includes a baggage allowance, the Travel Agent must contact their Support in order to request the waiver of 1PC allowing the baggage in the reservation.

7. Changes to the Cabin Baggage and Extra Seat policy

  • Both services must always be issued using the LIGHT, PLUS or TOP Brands.
  • If a passenger makes a purchase using the LIGHT Brand, s/he will have to buy the seat.
