Boarding authorization to passengers using their Social Name

This is to inform that, in compliance with Decree No. 8 727 of April 28, 2016, which recognizes gender identity and provides for the use of the Social Name in identity documents of transgender people across the Brazilian national territory, effective February 22, 2018 LATAM Airlines Brazil will accept identity documents issued with the person's Social Name on all its Brazil Domestic flights. These documents contain both names, i.e.

Civil Name: The name registered at birth

Social Name: Name by which a transgender person identifies themselves and is socially known

Passengers checking in with a document issued with their Social Name will be boarded if the following criteria are met:

  • The document is a government-issued identity document with photo;
  • Documents issued by class councils, federal councils and state governments will also be valid for check-in;
  • The document must be within the validity period (except CNH);
  • The name in the reservation must match one of the names in the document: Civil or Social

Example:

Name in the Reservation: Luis Silva

Name on document:

Civil: Ana Silva

Social: Luis Silva

The passenger may be boarded, as the name in the reservation matches the name in the identity document.

Passengers checking in with only a notarized document containing the Civil Name but with just the social name in the reservation will not be accepted for travel, as the Social Name in the reservation cannot be authenticated.
