LATAM provides the possibility to travel on all LATAM flights and routes with the following medical devices provided by the passenger: 

• Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC)
• Other medical devices of respiratory support (CPAP, EPAP, VPAP, APAP, etc). 
• Dialysis machines (the use on board is not allowed).

We inform that passengers requiring the use on board of PPOC, other respiratory assistance devices, or a dialysis machine must have their seats assigned, and the transportation of the devices will be at no additional cost, subject to the confirmation of SSR codes MEDA and POC in the reservation. 

The request for seat assignment must be made to the Global Sales Support (GSS) team exclusively through the support chat. Seats will be marked and assigned according to current definitions and after service confirmation.

POCs are electronic devices that provide concentrated oxygen (90%) extracted from air for people who need it, either due to chronic insufficiency from respiratory disease or heart disease. Passengers that require a POC must be in stable condition at their respective homes.

General Considerations

• Requires processing of Medical Certification.
• Only are allowed on board:
  • A specific list of all brands and models certified by the FAA. See list of authorized POCs. 
  • Provided the device bears a manufacturer's label stating its compliance with the acceptance criteria established for carriage and use on board the aircraft.

The label must include the following text printed in red:

“The manufacturer of this POC has determined this device conforms to all applicable FAA acceptance criteria for POC carriage and use on board aircraft."

• If the POC is similar in size to a personal item, e.g. a purse, small backpack, small bag, laptop computer, etc., it may be carried by the passenger at all times or placed under the seat in front of them. 
• If the POC is similar in size to a carry-on bag, it must be placed in the overhead compartment for taxi, take off and landing. 
• If the POC remains underneath the seat in front for taxi, take off and landing, it may be turned on. If the POC needs to be stowed in the overhead compartment, the POC must be turned off and its use discontinued during this period.
  
• The passenger must travel with enough batteries for full autonomy equivalent to 150% of the programmed duration of the travel itinerary (including stops and connections). This point must take into consideration:
  • The total amount of battery power including those installed in the POCThe additional batteries must come packaged in unitary form without making contact between them and complying with the regulations of dangerous goods available in latamairlines.com.
  • Additional batteries must be packed within a single pack that does not allow contact between the batteries and that follows the rules for dangerous goods available in latamairlines.com.
  • There is no age limit for transporting this device.

Seating Considerations 

Premium Economy and Economy Cabin:

• They should preferably be preferably located on a window or middle seat in the central seat column.
• Cannot be assigned seats in emergency rows or first rows (the POC cannot be placed under the seat in front in these rows)

Premium Business Cabin:

• They can be located in any cabin seat. 

Request

• Process Medical Certification at the time of making the reservation or least 48 hours prior to flight departure.
• To request the service of portable oxygen concentrators (POC), enter the SSR PPOC code and in free text enter the brand and model: Example: LIFESTYLE BY AIRSEP CORPORATION
• An OSI must be entered in the reservation informing the oxygen saturation rate on the ground: OSI: XX OXYGEN SATURATION RATE ON THE GROUND
• In addition, OSI must be entered in the reservation, informing the passenger was advised about:
  • The provisions to travel with a POC
  • Battery life specification. This data is mandatory for the medical certificate to be processed. Example:

• All information related to medical certification must be forwarded to LATAM; additionally, LATAM will enter aSSRMEDA containing all medical certification-related information for processing.
• Bookings must be prioritized directly on operating flights.

Medical Devices for Respiratory Support can be used on board for passenger comfort traveling with apnea or breathing difficulties.

The accepted devices are indicated in the List of Accepted Devices. Some respiratory assistance medical devices not included in the list will be allowed for carriage, provided they have a label indicating they are approved for airline use. Example: "This device does not exceed the maximum level of radiated radio frequency interference as described in the current edition of Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics (RTCA) Document (DO) 160, section 21, Category M". This may be verified at any point of the journey.

General Considerations

• It is not required to process Medical Certification.
• The transportation of respiratory medical devices is in addition to standard baggage and free of charge  if carried onboard for use during the flight.
• The devices must be provided by the passenger, considering enough batteries to operate autonomously during the trip. Additional batteries must be packed within a single pack that does not allow contact between the batteries and that follows the rules for dangerous goods available in latamarilines.com.Passengers traveling with other companies in the itinerary should check with each operator the service requirements.
• Passengers suffering from a condition or disease included in the List of medical conditions must complete the procedure specified in the Medical Certification section.

Seating Considerations

• When the size of the device is similar to a handbag, the device will be allowed to be located next to the passenger during the flight. If the device is bigger than a handbag, these devices should be located under the front passenger´s seat or the overhead bin.
• The passenger can be placed in any seat.

Reservations

The Travel Agent must indicate to the passenger the following conditions to transport the respiratory medical device:

• Acceptance of authorized devices according to the List of accepted devices or by providing the label indicating they are approved for airline use.
• The duration of the flight and the warning about the transport of sufficient batteries, which must be packed unitarily complying with the regulations of dangerous goods available in latamairlines.com.
• The device management and operation is under the passenger´s responsibility. 

The Travel Agent must back up the information given to the passenger through OSI:

• OSI PSGR ADV PAP CONDITIONS FOR USE ON BOARD
• OSI PSGR ADV BATTERIES WITH AUTONOMY FOR THE DURATION OF FLT

It is not necessary to process Medical Certification to carry these devices, unless the passenger suffers from a condition or disease included in the List of medical conditions.

(*) Passengers requiring these POC models at all times (including take off and landing) can only fly in Economy and Premium Economy cabins where POC units can be placed under the seat in front of them. POCs are not permitted in Premium Business cabins because the units cannot be secured in place.

These devices may be carried in the cabin or in the cargo compartment.

Conditions for carriage:

• The machine user is the passenger: In this case transportation is free of charge for the passenger and is not counted toward the baggage allowance limit (cabin or cargo), so long as the weight and size rules for transportation are observed. (Check request for this point).

• The machine user is not the passenger: If the machine is to be used by someone else, carriage will be subject to the baggage allowance and counted against the baggage limit for the ticket or purchased as additional checked bag.

General Considerations

• The machine cannot be used on board.
• The machine and any additional items must comply with applicable hazardous materials rules.
• Transporting the machine on connecting flights is permitted, although the customer must check conditions for acceptance directly with all the airlines involved in the itinerary.
• In both cases, the customer must be advised that the machine must be properly packed and its parts isolated. Any damage due to non-compliance with this requirement is the sole responsibility of the customer.

Seats

• The passenger can be placed in any seat.

Request

• When a passenger informs that is transporting this machine as personal user, it is due to the passenger has kidney insufficiency; therefore, they must ALWAYS obtain a Medical Support (MEDIF) for this condition at the time of making the reservation or at least 48 hours prior to flight departure.
