Unaccompanied minors (UMNR) service between 12 and 17 years of age on international flights to/from Chile

Date of Implementation:

According to new provisions of the Government of Chile, as of March 31, 2021, all passengers entering the country will be directed to sanitary residences and on the fifth day (with a negative PCR test), they will be allowed to go to their accommodation/residence.

In view of the new health requirements, it has been decided to suspend the Unaccompanied Minors (UMNR) service for passengers between 12 and 17 years of age on international flights to/from Chile from now.

Some points to take into account regarding this restriction:

  • The optional UMNR (minors between 12 to 17 years of age) should not be requested with flights on or after March 31, 2021, as the service will not be available. UMNR service should not be requested through APEC.
  • Customers with previously confirmed UMNR bookings will be notified by LATAM and informed of the new requirements for entry into Chile and along with this will be offered a refund of the EMD for UM service. If the customer decides to withdraw from the minor trip, they will be offered the possibility to leave their ticket open for future changes at a later date within the validity of their ticket.
  • For customers who choose to leave their tkt open, LATAM will insert a mark in the RMK field of the ticket: UMNR WVED.
  • The change of date to resume travel may be made by travel agents, without penalty but subject to applicable fare differences.
  • If the customer wishes to retain the minor's travel (despite UM service not being available), the minor may travel as any adult passenger subject to compliance with the health regulation.
  • This exception is in addition to the existing Covid flexibilities publications.

It should be noted that all expenses associated with the sanitary residence must be paid by the passenger, only those who started their trip before March 27, 2021 (including the 27th) are exempt. Passengers requiring further information on health requirements in Chile should contact the country's official sources through (;

UM services are maintained for minors between 8 and 11 years of age (mandatory service). According to the Minsal, they will be authorized to carry out their quarantine directly at their place of residence in Chile, without going through a hotel or a sanitary residence.
