    This section details baggage policies for interline travel — itineraries combining LATAM flights with other airlines. The baggage allowance is determined by the Most Significant Carrier (MSC) according to IATA’s geographic areas. For detailed information, visit  Baggage between airlines on LATAM.com 
      • When a passenger travels on an interline itinerary (a journey operated by LATAM together with other airlines), the baggage allowance is determined by the Most Significant Carrier (MSC) — that is, the airline operating the geographically longest or most significant segment of the trip.
      • This means that the baggage policy of the Main Airline will apply for the entire itinerary until the final destination.

      To clarify which is the geographically longest or major route on an inter-airline trip, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) divides the globe into three areas:

      • Area 1: North America, South America, Central America and Hawaii.
      • Area 2: Europe, Africa and the Middle East Area.
      • Area 3: Asia, Guam and Oceania.

      Based on the geographical areas determined by IATA, the Main Airline can be defined in three different ways, depending on how the trip route is organized:

      • Way 1: When there is a cross between 2 different IATA areas. If you cross from South America to Europe, for example, apply the baggage on that flight for your entire trip. If you then crossed from Europe to Oceania, the one that counts would be the longest flight.
      • Way 2: When there is a cross between continents within the same area. If you cross from South America to Central America, applies the baggage of that flight for your entire trip. Not the baggage of flights that may be before or after.
      • Way 3: On the first international flight of the trip, when there is no travel between continents or areas.
      • In itineraries starting or ending in the U.S. or Canada, the baggage policy of the first airline on the ticket generally applies, even when layovers exceed 24 hours.
        The exception is for codeshare flights to or from the U.S., where the marketing carrier (the airline that sold the ticket) defines the applicable baggage policy.
