    These are passengers who have not yet reached the legal age of majority (under 18 years of age) and who, according to local regulations or safety standards, may be subject to additional requirements for their transportation. 

    In this section, you’ll find practical guidance on age requirements, fares, seating, etc.

      Passenger Type Passenger Codes Age range (relative to the start date of travel)
      Infants INFT Children under 2 years old
      Child CHD Children under 12 years old
      Teenagers: They do not have a specific identifier. Minors aged 12 to 17
      • Children between 2 and 7 years old:They must travel with a legally responsible adult (over 18 years old) in the same cabin, except for parents, who have no age limit.
      • Children between 8 and 11 years old:They may travel with a responsible adult (over 18 years old) or an emancipated teenager, either in the same cabin or a different one. If they travel in a different cabin, the adult must accompany them during boarding, deplaning, immigration, and other airport processes.
      • If they travel alone (children between 8 and 11 years old) they must travel with a shuttle service.Unaccompanied Minor (UMNR) mandatory.
      • The special children's meal (CHML) It must be requested in the reservation, otherwise the minor will receive an adult meal. (Only available on flights that apply) 

      The fare applies to the start date of the trip, meaning it applies to the entire independent trip during which the minor turns 12. 

       

      Children (2 - 11 YEARS)
      National Routes International Routes
      · They pay 100% of the rate.
      · Except Colombia: on domestic routes CO they pay 67% of the purchased fare plus taxes      		 · They pay 100% of the rate

      The Minor Discount (CHD/INF) is permitted, where the fare rules indicate it, on private fares specifically negotiated to meet market needs (e.g., tour operator business fares, private net fares, CAT, among others). Minors are exempt from any penalty for double discounts for CHD passengers. With the negotiated fare, minor passengers must be issued with the discount code CHD/INF next to their name on the ticket.

      Group bookings maintain the prohibition of double discounts.

       

      • They must occupy the seat next to the adult belonging to the family group (immediately next to it), always in the same row.
      • Passengers who do not wish to pre-purchase seats to sit together must wait until automated check-in (48 hours before the flight), where the system will automatically assign seats together for the minor and the adult in their care.
      • They cannot be placed in emergency exit rows. 

      We recommend informing the client that they should always inform themselves about the legal requirements and documentation for transporting the minor in the countries of departure and arrival.

      The documentation required in Colombia to accommodate a minor traveling alone or without their parents or legal guardians in a hotel in the event of a flight delay or cancellation.

      Chair certified by CRS (Child Restraint System):

      • Certified restraints or CRS must bear the manufacturer's inscription in English: “This restraint is certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft” or “FAA Approved for Aircraft Use Only.”

       

      Arnés (CARES - Child Aviation Restraint System):

      • Harness that fits around the back of the Economy cabin seat and is secured with the aircraft seat belt to provide upper body restraint
      • Only for minors weighing between 10 and 20 kg.
      • They can only be used in Economy and Premium Economy cabins.
      • It must have a manufacturer's label indicating that it is certified for air travel: “FAA Approved for Aircraft Use Only,” “FAA Approved in Accordance with 14 CFR 21.8,” or “FAA Approved in Accordance with 14 CFR 21.305, Amd 21.50 6-9-1980.”
      • The adult in charge of the minor is responsible for installing it correctly and ensuring that the minor does not exceed the weight limits.

       

      Restriction on the use of booster seats and baby carriers on board

      For safety reasons and in accordance with current aviation regulations, the use of boosters and baby carriers is restricted throughout the entire flight (taxi, takeoff, cruise, and landing).
