    BAGGAGE - Restriction on boarding boxes as checked baggage on flights departing from the United States (US)

    Description

    To standardize the handling of checked baggage on flights from the United States, restrictions will be applied to the boarding of boxes as checked baggage in certain situations.

    Starting October 4, 2025, the boarding of boxes as checked baggage on flights departing from the United States will be governed by the following conditions:

    - Only boxes that correspond to the original factory packaging and contents, and that are sealed, will be accepted. Any other type of box, as well as boxes containing items different from the original factory contents, will NOT be accepted.

    - The boarding of multiple boxes joined together with materials such as adhesive tape, rope, cellophane, glue, or staples—attempting to transform them into a single piece of baggage—will NOT be permitted.

    If a passenger arrives at the airport with items for checked baggage that are  identified as commercial baggage, such as bags, boxes, etc., these will be rejected. The passenger will then need to arrange  transport for these items withLATAM Cargo.

    Considerations:

    Passengers who arrived  at the airport but were not boarded due to carrying baggage that can be identified as commercial baggage are now eligible for a refund of issued EMDs  under certain conditions:

    • The EMD must have been issued by October 31, 2025.
    • Boarding must have been denied at the airport.
    • The reason for the denied boarding by the airport must be supported in the reservation (SSR CMNT: DNB X BAG).

    If these conditions are met, a refund of baggage EMDs can be requested, subject to the regulations of the flight coupon to which they are associated with:

    For EMDs issued after October 31, 2025, or those that do not have the airport message indicating denied boarding, they must be processed according to the regulations of the purchased fare.
