ANIMALS - New entry requirements for animals en Routes to the United States


Description:

The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) has updated

its regulation for the international movement of Animals on routes

to/from the USA effective August 01, 2024.

Scope:

Carriage of Pets AVIH/PETC and 

Service Animals: SVAN / ESAN

Considerations: 

Embargo:

 

The ban is maintained for:

- Bookings of PETC and AVIH services (dogs only) to and from countries with a high risk of dog rabies for flights until August 31, 2024.

The ban is lifted for:

- Cats on all routes. Review requirements in TIMATIC.

- PETC and AVIH services (dogs) originating in countries with low or zero risk of dog rabies, only connecting or originating in Santiago. Otherwise they will not be accepted.

The following services are excluded from the ban, provided they meet the new requirements for entry into the United States:

- SVAN traveling to/from the USA.

- ESAN traveling between Colombia and the USA.

- PETC and AVIH originating in countries with a high risk of dog rabies that started their trip before August 01, 2024 and are returning to the USA.

- Customers with a “CDC Dog Import Permit” to bring the dog to the USA until August 31, 2024 or until permit expiration date, whichever comes first.

NEW REQUIREMENTS: The new requirements must be observed in

all the cases mentioned above, and compliance will be verified at the

airport of origination.

Point of Entry into

Dogs may enter the United States at any airport of entry, provided the airport has been declared in the CDC Dog Import

Form.

Dogs may enter the United States only at

airports equipped with

animal care facilities registered with the CDC (ACF), provided

the airport has been

declared in the Dog Import Form

Permitted in: JFK, ATL, LAX, MIA

Not permitted in: MCO and BOS

CDC Dog Import Form (long version)

- Dogs must appear healthy upon arrival.

- Dogs must be at least 6 months of age at the time of arriving or returning to the USA.

- Dogs must be microchipped. The microchip number must be included in all required forms and documents.

- Certification of the rabies vaccination form issued by the USA or a USDA- approved health certificate for export.



- Certification of the rabies vaccination

form and foreign microchip (issued by an official Government-

approved veterinarian).

- Valid anti-rabies serological profile report issued by a CDC-approved laboratory (In English or with a certified translation).

- Reservation at a CDC-registered animal care facility.

Point of Entry into the USA:

No restriction

If transiting or connecting in BOG, LIM or GRU, apply the rules for high-risk countries.

CDC Dog Import Form submission receipt (short version)

- Dogs must be at least 6 months of age at the time of arriving or returning to the USA.

- Dogs must be microchipped. The microchip number must be included in all required forms and documents.

For previously confirmed bookings affected by the ban, customers must be offered the option of involuntary refund (Ticket + EMD).

The information in this update supersedes the one released on July 18, 2024.
