Special baggage

	This section explains LATAM’s policies for transporting special baggage and sports equipment. Items such as sporting gear, musical instruments, televisions, or monitors can be carried in the hold for a fixed fee, which varies by route. For full details, visit Special baggage on LATAM.com

Special Baggage (extra cost)

Certain sports equipment, musical instruments, televisions or monitors are considered special baggage and can be carried in the hold for an extra charge. The price is fixed and depends on the route of the trip.

Up to 300 Linear cm (Length + Width + Height)
Baggage on flights to, from or via Argentina, Aruba, Cuba, Europe, Oceania, South Africa or Venezuela: in these destinations you can only take up to 32 kg (70.5 lb) per piece. The same applies if your flight connects with Air Canada, British Airways, Iberia, or Qantas (interline).
Special baggage over 45 kg (99.2 lb): keep in mind that if your baggage exceeds 45 kg (99.2 lb) in weight per piece, regardless of its measurements, it cannot be transported on our flights.

Baggage type

Any item not included in this list will be considered as regular baggage and must be carried in the cabin or hold as determined by the maximum weight and size allowance. If these conditions are exceeded, extra costs may apply for additional baggage, excess weight and/or oversize, which may even be cumulative.

Exceptions: Wheelchairs, canes, and others

The transportation of wheelchairs or other personal instruments for special needs is free of charge. Check the requirements to travel with them.

Sports equipment

To travel with your sports equipment, you must pack it properly so that it does not damage other baggage during the trip. If you need to carry very large pieces of equipment that cannot be transported as checked baggage (kayaks, canoes and paddles, hang gliders, poles, etc.), you can do so via LATAM Cargo.
Note: Sports equipment not included in the following list is part of the regular hold baggage, and is not charged as special baggage. However, if they exceed the weight, size and/or number of pieces allowed, we will apply the corresponding excess charge.

Musical instruments

Musical instruments are allowed in the cabin as long as they meet the size and weight limits for small bags. Otherwise, they must be transported as special baggage in the hold. This service must be purchased in advance since special baggage is not included in the regular baggage policy.

Cellos, tubas, double basses and bass drums: To be transported in the hold, they must be packed in rigid cases.
Guitars: They are not considered special baggage. This means that you can carry them as a regular baggage item in the hold if your ticket includes it. If it does not, you can still carry it paying for an additional piece. All guitars, independently of their features, must be packed in rigid cases.

Audiovisual equipment

You can take monitors, projection screens and televisions (40 inches or more) that are stored in appropriate packaging protecting them from damage as checked baggage. Our recommendation is that you do not transport fragile or valuable audiovisual items in the hold, because we cannot be held responsible for loss, misplacement or theft.

Remember that these types of baggage must fall within the dimensions and maximum weight described in the General Information section.

Transportation of urns

We allow the transport of amphorae with cremated human remains, both in the cabin and in the hold, although each country has different requirements to be carried on your flight (or the impossibility to do so). Please carry with you all the necessary documentation for all your flights.
