SPECIAL SERVICES - Update on the temporary Restriction of Dogs Entering the U.S. from Countries Considered at High Risk for Rabies

We inform that the list of countries considered high risk for rabies transmission has been updated, extending the temporary restriction on the entry of dogs from these countries into the United States.

Description:

The temporary  restriction   on  entry of dogs into the United States from  high-risk countries for canine rabies will be extended until July 31, 2023. This includes dogs coming from high-risk countries if the dogs have been in a high-risk country within the past 6 months.

 

Anyone can import dogs, even if they reside in a country considered high risk for rabies transmission, as long as the dogs meet the requested requirements.

Considerations:

Dogs vaccinated against rabies in the United States by a U.S. licensed veterinarian may re-enter the United States from a high-risk country without a CDC Dog Import Permit if the dog:

 

 

Expired rabies vaccination certificates, even if issued in the U.S., will not be accepted.

 

If the rabies vaccination certificate issued in the U.S. has expired, the dog must receive a booster dose of rabies vaccination outside the U.S. and meet the requirements for dogs vaccinated abroad.

 

Beginning March 1, 2023, all foreign-vaccinated dogs entering the United States from rabies high-risk countries must have a valid CDC Rabies Vaccination and Microchip Record in addition to either a CDC Dog Import Permit or a reservation at a CDC-approved animal care facility. CDC will NOT accept foreign-issued pet passports or any other certificates for foreign rabies vaccinations

We remind you of the temporary suspension of pet service between the United States and rabies high- risk countries. Service´s confirmation is permitted provided that the requirements of the CDC are met
